"Greater Things"

In response to a message series I just finished up in January for our Sunday night [lit] worship experience for youth, I have prayerfully listened to the nudging of the Holy Spirit to start keeping tabs of what these "Greater Things" in my life are....I started putting this idea into practice after studying John 1 and have been overwhelmed by the continued evidences in my life of these "Greater Things" that Jesus talked about.

I will unfold the passage in the upcoming days and how it impacted me to walk more deeply, with a purpose in my daily relationship with Christ. In the last 3-4 months, but more specifically the last 7 weeks, God has continually amazed me by showing me renewed direction in my personal health, through my study habits, through my Disciple Bible Study class, in relationships with students from past youth ministries and in many smaller, every day moments.

I absolutely believe God wants "Greater Things" for our lives, with all of my heart I believe this but as I was studying the passage in John 1:43-50, it hit me like a 2x4 to my head when I read the statement of Jesus in verse 50;

"Because I said to you, 'I saw you under a fig tree,' do you believe? You will see greater things than these.  - ESV

- What were these "Greater Things?"

- How would I recognize these in my life and more importantly, could I?

- What if I missed out on something "Greater" because I wasn't looking or wasn't paying attention?

We have to look at this passage in context and not just use verse 50 as a prosperity passage, pulled away from the deep connection between verses 43-49 and the last part of verse 50 after Jesus makes this "Greater Things" statement.

My goal is not to persuade or convince you of anything...rather, I want to use the moments that I have witnessed personally over the last few months to speak the truth of this text and what I believe this promise holds for all of us if we are willing to set aside some preconceived ideas of what we may have always believed.

Tomorrow, I hope to cover verses 43-45 and explain the powerful moment I saw in our youth ministry just a few short weeks ago.

Peaceful Rest
- Jay
